THE TORTOLÌ FISHERMEN COOPERATIVE
The Tortolì Fishermen Cooperative was founded in 1944 by the joining of local fishermen together with other fishermen from the island of Ponza near Napels. Since the early beginnings of the association it was immediately clear for the cooperative that they needed to have its production in a humid environment and with all the right natural circumstances. Therefore it was mutually decided to reside at the lagoon of Tortoli’, located in Ogliastra on the east coast of Sardinia.
In addition to its fishing activities, the cooperative is also very much engaged in semi-intensive sea-bass and sea-bream farming in floating cages. This alongside of long-line mussel farming and oyster farming in hanging structures.
The production facilities are equipped with modern shellfish purification machines and they can rely on an efficient shipping department.

ACTIVITIES AND SERVICES OFFERED
Within the natural boundries of the lagoon, the cooperative develops activities like fishing, breeding and all kinds of sorting activities. Furthermore the cooperative conserves the fish and brings it onto the markets. The most important products of the company are Oysters and Mussels. Other important fish are Mullet, for the production of Bottarga(a typical product for this region), and other fishes ranging from sea-bream, sea-bass and eel.
In addition to above mentioned activities the cooperative also manages the catering, wholesale, educational programs and biological and scientific research.
EATING IN THE LAGOON
Right next to the fish pond, in the midst of the beautiful scenery of the lagoon and the sea, you can enjoy the taste of all the fresh products. At ‘zero kilometers’. Buy fish at ‘La Peschiera’, help yourself at the buffet of ‘La Laguna Beach’ or indulge in wonderful moments of rest and relaxation and be fully served at Oyster bar ‘Chiosco di Ponente’.
EATING IN THE CITY
If you want to enjoy our delicious fresh products, but you don’t want to move from the city centre of Tortolì, you can find them at our official shop “La Pescheria di Via Tirso”.
SPORT FISHING
The Cooperative also offers, within the lagoon, the opportunity to relax and have fun fishing, both recreational as well as for more sportive reasons. In this way, for example, you can experiment with “Giostra” fishing or rent a spot inside the lagoon to compete face-to-face with the fish that populate the lagoon.
EDUCATIONAL FARM / CEAS
The Cooperative offers to our new generations the opportunity to attend an established education center for environmental protection. Inside of the complex you can find a ‘Didactic Farm’ which offers children from the earliest of ages an interactive naturalistic learning experience. .
